My niece (19 year old college student) bought a 7", 8 GB Samsung tablet about 5 months ago -- she loves it. She uses the tablet for the "fun stuff" as she calls it, and she uses her laptop for her school work.

I've had a Google Nexus 7" tablet (16 GB though) for a year and love to sing its praises. There are beaucoup books on it (free and paid from Amazon) and assorted games - freecell, crosswords, board games and block games. Admittedly these games are mild compared to the high action/intense graphics some require. Once downloaded, I use them all offline so they're readily available whether at home or on a cruise ship.

I also keep assorted files on it to reference when I'm at the library or shopping - i.e. books I'd like to read, clothing sizes/colors, etc.

I also downloaded a free GPS app that works offline. As a passenger when I was first experimenting with it, my husband and I were startled when a voice told us to turn left in 1/4 mile. Before leaving on a recent cruise another app allowed me to download maps of selected islands. When we got to an island, I opened its map and we were able to make walking routes from the dock.

I still have over 10 GM of storage available. Not particularly interested in downloading my 2000 favorite songs or 256 movies.

I use it online when I'm sitting on the lanai.

If it was dropped and broken today (heaven forbid), I'd immediately buy another - love it!

Good luck in your search, June

I saw one at Costco for around $159. I thought it was a great price and worth the trip if you are a Costco member.
