Question Printer Hookup Help!

I have a new Dell XPS 15Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). It's hooked up to an HP 1022n lazer jet printer (Bought in 2006) through a linksys router (WRT54GS) which also supplies my internet connection. The "n" in the printer model number means it is a network printer. The computer is communicating OK with the printer in this configuration with one problem. When a document is printed with only one copy specified on the print page, the printer keeps on printing the document over and over until it runs out of paper. Hitting the cancel button does not work. Spoke to Costco and HP tech support to no avail. Am looking for any suggestions. What can be causing this continuous printing? and how to solve it? Thanks.

Does it do the same thing when connected directly by USB? Is there an internal setup in the printer that specifies the number of copies that is overriding the printer driver on the computer?

HP 1022n printer won't stop printing - Printers - Computer-Peripherals

Hi:
I googled your problem and came up with this link. Looks like others have had the same problem. If you click the link and scroll to the bottom of the page, it looks like there might be a solution.

When I do have a problem such as this I've found that googling can almost always find some solution. Good luck!

Thanks for all your replies. I'm checking each one out. One thing I wanted to mention is that I have a Dell desktop (from 2003) running windows XP Professional hooked up to the same printer on the same network and have no problem. So I fear the problem lies with this new Windows 7. Someone asked about the internal selection of the number of copies. The printer is set for one copy. And until my other laptop with Windows XP broke down, it too was running the printer on the same wireless network without any problem. Definitely seems to be a Windows 7 issue. BTW, when I contacted HP tech support, all they wanted to do was sell me a new printer. They said my 1022n printer was old. Give me a break . . . . five years and some odd months is not very old.

Thanks again. And if there are any other suggestions, please let me know.

I was reading somewhere just a few days ago that you should expect to replace a computer every three years. I know that might sound absurd, but it's a part of "planned obsolescence," IMO. The software keeps getting more complex, and memory hogging, and causes you to need to upgrade your hardware.

"Homeball," do a Google search on Windows XP/7 compatibility. I think you have a compatibility issue between the two operating systems. I cannot get my latest W7 computer to talk to my XP based home network, which has a W98 desktop and a HP printer bought in 1996. (Yeah, I know - it's time to upgrade).

I *REALLY* think the W7/XP compatibility issue is at the root of your problem.

I have windows 7 and a Lexmark printer. I had to call Lexmark and they updated the drivers and it's working great. They had not posted new drivers on the web site. Give HP a call. They should be able to help you. Also, if you haven't already, go to your printer settings and make sure your printer is selected.

Before installing a new driver, just right click on the printer icon in devices and printers, choose printer properties, ports, and uncheck bidirectional printing. Click apply and ok.

Default 64 bit

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be because the machine was a 64-bit machine. The printer driver had to be different. Don't know if this helps, but it certainly sounds like an incorrect printer driver to me.

On my printer properties page the box to uncheck is referred to as "enable bidirectional support." That allows the printer to send messages to the computer such as "out of paper", etc. I unchecked that box and the problem appears to have gone away. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks.
