Default Problem with wireless connection?

Help! We have two laptops, both equipped for wireless that worked perfectly through our Linksys router before moving to TV. Now, one works well but the other continually drops and reconnects the wireless signal. I took it to Barnes & Noble where it worked fine. Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be and how it can be corrected?

Sounds like a weak signal from the internet provider (since it worked fine in Barnes & Noble).

My Sprint Hotspot connection drops out all the time.

I bought both a Linksy E2500 router and an HP Laptop from Best Buy when we moved here, I never owned a laptop before. I have Century Link 10.0 speed to the curb, no modem. Everything worked great for three months, then about two weeks ago the connection would go down about once an hour or two for about 15 minutes or so. Then I would unplug the modem and plug the inthernet jack directly into the laptop and it would work fine, so I knew the problem was with the router.

I re-inserted the startup disc from Linksey and did a download like it was new. Ever since then it has worked great. Hopefully this will work for you.

I am having the same issue with a friend's second laptop. Thinking the older one was "toast" he bought a new one. I worked on the one that he thought was gone and got it working fine, at MY house. When I took it back to HIS house, where his new laptop connects to the internet just fine, I could not get any connectivity at all. It "sees" the network but will not connect to the internet. I found a possible solution on line and you can check it out to see if this may be the problem. It relates to two laptops having the same IP address and how that does not work. This link will get you to info as to how to change the IP address on one of the laptops. I have not had a chance to try this on my friend's laptop but I will when I visit again.

Everyday. when my husband gets on his laptop, we have the same problem. It connects for a while and then abruptly disconnects. My Wifi disappears from our sharing
center, I re-do and we start the dance all over again.....

I had a linksys/vista/comcast connectivity problem, and solved it with a netgear router. Not 100% though, I cannot actually connect to comcast without getting a timeout. all other connections seem to be fine.

Default Support

If you have Cenruylink you can get free support from them, including Windows problems. The support staff is difficult to understand...they are in an exotic place, Winter Park!

Cool

You got some good info above, especially as it relates to IP addresses.

One other issue you might want to check, is WHICH network are you connecting.... At times, I [unknowingly] connect to a neighbors unsecured network and I have all kinds of connection issues. If that is happening, you can set your laptop to ignore the other network and connect to yours.

Just another thing to check....

Default Mine drops all the time. That is me in the front all cussing and rebooting.

It says something about....a duplicate IP address or another computer on line or something.

I am fluent in English and speak a little French and cannot even translate computereze.

Do you have more than one computer, in your home, connecting to your internet connection? Do you have wireless?

Since original post did not mention who the ISP is, don't know if this applies to their problem.

Neighbor had problems recently with her wireless laptop. Could not get on internet through Comcast. Disconnected power cord and cable from modem and router, which is what Comcast always tells you to do. She was then able to get on internet but it was sloooooooooowww. Seemed like a dial-up connection (remember that). Finally called Comcast and they did something from their end and suddenly she was on the internet with download speeds approaching 18 MBPS.
