Anybody done this?
They say it will be a bit of a speed upgrade, but I'm having if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it reservations. My current wired Comcast modem and 3rd party router have been working well, so I'm not sure I want to rock the boat. |

If you are happy with what you have then don't bother. We summer in TN and I just got a notice about my modem not my wireless router. You could save a monthly fee if you buy your own modem. They are charging you monthly to use their modem. Over several years you end up paying hundreds of dollars for something that cost $68 on Amazon. go to Comcast Official Site: Cable TV, Internet, and Phone Service Provider I ordered the ARRIS / Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - Retail Packaging which is on their list.
I have the same modem in our house in TV and we are with Brighthouse Cable. |

We just went through a nightmare with this. We purchased the modem they said to buy if we wanted to have our own. Well we were so slow that it drove us crazy. We had to wait3 days for someone to come out. They said there is something wrong with the modem so they put us back on our old one and we are waiting for the new one to come. I am from the place of this is fine leave it alone but my husband is big on electronics and if it can go faster that is what he wants. I hope when the new one arrives this one will work. The worst part of this whole thing was the customer service. I have never seen such a terrible customer service. They had no clue what to do gave us 3 appointments they never called back when they were supposed to. There was a language barrier. I am just hoping we do not have a repeat of what we just went through. The tech guy was great it was the customer service.

Hooking up a new modem is pretty simple. Unplug the wires from the old modem and
plug them into the new one. The problem can be getting through to Comcast to give them the new MAC address and getting them to sent a refresh signal. Good thing we have Brighthouse in TV. |

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that this is an "opt out" situation. Comcast installs WITH the Xfinity hotspot and you have to tell them no.

don't do it. I did it and they immediately changed my plan....saying I ordered an upgrade in service which I did not. apparently, accepting the modem was the order. my bill went up over $30. took several calls to get it back down to something I could live with.

In addition one has to re-program all wifi products in the home to accomodate the new wireless modem......no thanx.
I also considere buying a replacement for the modem I currently lease from Comcast. Two issues have stopped me from doing so. One, the need to have them "activate" the new modem. Two, ANY future hickup or interuption will always be aimed at the non Comcast device. I am happy with their "old(er)" modem with my Linksys router which provides me finger snap response anywhere on our property.......and it is MY secured network! |
