Hi:
We've had an AT&T microcell (signal booster) for quite a while. I really didn't realize what a difference it made until yesterday. Somehow it became unplugged. All of a sudden my husband had 3 dropped calls in a row. We each only had one or two bars on both phones. I looked at the phone and realized that the word Mcell wasn't at the top of the phone and that alerted me that it wasn't working. I found it unplugged. Rebooted everything and now we are back to 5 bars again and no dropped calls. For those of you who are having to go outside to make phone calls or are constantly getting dropped calls and have an ATT cell phone this might be a consideration for you. Just thought I'd share our experience as it was eye-opening. |

Is there a cost to this?

Yes, you will have to buy a microcell. I bought one used for $50.00 from someone on TOTV. I see quite a few on Ebay. The person I bought mine from got it from AT&T and talked them into giving it to him for half price because of his poor signal but when AT&T put in the new towers he didn't need it anymore. You can read about it at attwireless.com. I was just so amazed at what a difference it made in our signal. Of course you never know if it will work that well for everyone else.

Would this microcell improve the signal more on top of the improvement of the towers? I'm at 3 bars at the house. I would love to have the full 5 bars.

Can't really say. It improved mine greatly, but there is no guarantee.

You must understand that it is really using your internet connection (mine is Comcast) for incoming and outgoing calls. The "cell" your phone connects to is actually the MicroCell and it is only a few week away. You *WILL* get 5-bars always. You will need to "register" any cell phones that will use the MicroCell so that it knows how to "route" incoming calls through the internet to your home. I have both, my iphone 5s and my wife's iphone 5 registered. There is no additional monthly cost to have this service after you purchase the MicroCell. However, they do offer a service for about $20/month that gives to unlimited minutes for all calls thru you MicroCell. We had it for about 6 months, and then deleted that option.

Ours was free from AT&T, but we live in PA. We went to the AT&T store and they looked at a coverage map. We live in a hole and have virtually no coverage. We can't give up our land line due to our location. Because the map showed our coverage did not work where we lived, they gave us the Micro Cell for free. We still have limited phone coverage, but WiFi now works.

Thanks for this information. Going to stop by the AT&T store to ask about the microcell.
