Default three clicks on the back arrow

This may not be the right place to post this question, but I didn't notice an area to ask forum specific questions. I would be ok with either an answer, or being directed to somewhere I can find the answer...

On this forum I find that it takes three clicks on the back arrow of the browser to go back to the previous page of the forum, all other forums I frequent it goes back with one click....

Example, I start by selecting the "New Posts" tab at top...then click on the little icon on the first resulting thread that takes me to the first unread post in that thread. After reading the new post, I then click on the browser's back arrow, expecting to either be taken back to the first post of that thread, or to the list of the New Posts. It takes three clicks to go back....

Thanks for any advice.

I find that only happens to me on the longer threads.
When you read the first few posts, its considered PAGE 1, then it says "more posts below" When you go to those posts, you are on Page 2, further down it says "more posts below", if you open , you will be on page 3. Each time you use your browser BACK button, you go to the previous Page. There are user setting that will change how many posts are on YOUR Pages.

Go to USER CP, EDIT OPTIONS , then EDIT THREAD DISPLAY OPTIONS, then Posts Per PAGE
Change to higher number of posts per page. This should solve it.

I have seen this also, for me it is caused by googleleads. To see what the back button "thinks" it should do, right click on the back button. That should show a drop down of links to go back to.

I have never dug into how/why google leads gets in there sometimes... I am not seeing the issue at this time.

Try putting the cursor on the back arrow, right click the mouse and click on the last search page you were using, i.e. Talk of the Villages Search Results.

I right click and open the thread in a new tab, then just close the tab to go back to where I left off.

Thank you all who have commented. I changed the number of posts per page as per rayschic's suggestion...that does make reading long threads better, but made no difference in my having to hit the back arrow 3 times. After trying several different things (still don't know why this forum behaves differrently that the several others I frequent that apparently use the same basic format/forum infrasturctue) I have started using JoelJohnson's suggestion. It will take me a few days to retrain the "muscle memory" to do this, but this makes reading much easier.

One additional thought....I suspect it has something to do with the long column of ads on the left side, but this is just a wild guess.

There are times when the back button does nothing. I hit the refresh key and then the back button works. I figure it must be one of the ads that is doing it and a refresh changes the ads. Might not be but it works for me.

What happened when you right click on the 'back' button? Here is my screen when I right click on back button (arrow). The check mark is on my current screen (replying to this) and the next one is where I go if I hit the back button. What yours displays when you right click may give a clue to the issue.

Also, you should be able to click on history (shown in my picture) for other options. Hopes this makes sense and helps....
