Contact someone from the Village computer club. They are listed here in the section for clubs or in the Daily Sun Thursday club edition. These folks know more about this kind of thing and how it can or should be done. They also take old machines and clean and recycle and give to schools.

You can be sure that the fee will be dependent upon the size and type of the drive, not to mention the condition.

Where can I go to do this? I could drill holes in it with a hand drill but I think plugging it with .38 special bullets would be more rewarding.
I have an old XP machine that could be used for target practice also. Z

The fellow from CFLGEEK is absolutely correct. And while your computer my be inoperative, the hard drive may very well be good and all that might be necessary is to remove it from the old machine and put it in another one and all your info is right there. You may think a hard drive is fragile, but not really so, they are a marvel of technology, rugged beyond belief! However, if you want to destroy the data and the drive itself, remove the 5 or more torx screws on the top, then feel for some indentations under the label on the top of the drive, you'll find a couple of indentations, there are two more screws underneath, remove those and the thin strip of tape joining the top cover of the drive and the frame of it, remove the cover, exposing the insides. Absolutely beautiful machining. Now take a large old rusty pair of gas pliers and bend the hell out of the disk. Your data is now history!

Everything you copy at Staples and Office Depot is on the copy machines hard drive.(Snopes it)Only IT's that want to see your data could access a hard drive that you format. All your banking and finance is done on their servers. No info is sent to your Windows folder.Plus you can download Wipe software for free. You need to remove the drive from the PC connect it with a external adapter to another machine and run the program.

Sorry for the slow response. The professional data wiping service runs $59.99. Although shooting a hard drive is quite effective, you MUST shoot it on the bottom side. The top part is virtually bulletproof. I have had many a round come back to whiz past my ear.

You could get Gibbs from NCIS to shoot it for you, he is great at a long distance, doubt the round would come back.
