Does anyone have a new iPhone 4S? How do you like it?
How do you like using Siri? |

Although, this isn't answering your question directly, it's kinda funny..

My son got one the day it came out. I'll let you know what he thinks.
All I know he was able to post pretty quickly pictures of his one month old son on facebook...There could be an avatar change come Thanksgiving. |

Siri is simply amazing! I can't believe Apple could sandwich the remarkable voice recognition and technology into the same sized phone. I never have really liked computer games or lots of apps, but playing with Siri to customize it to me is absolute fun!

I'm waiting for the 5 to come out. I can't believe I'm still using the original IPhone. Only because they won't grandfather me in with my free data. AT&T said they would not and Apple said the would. Well...AT&T sends me my bill, so...
I'll wait. And try and be patient.

I was a Verizon Wireless customer for 21 years - ever since having huge bricks mounted in the trunk of my car and the little antennas on the back window with the little curly-que at the base.
Since around 2004 I was a Windows Mobile person - since I could write apps with the same development environment I worked on for my job. On October 14th, I switched to Sprint. My 3-line family plan will be about $50/mo cheaper with Sprint. I don't have nearly as many mandatory fees. Sprint is also giving me unlimited date whereas Verizon wouldn't. It was really a no-brainer decision for me. Since switching I've used my cell phone for far more things than I ever used my WinMo phones for - even though I had top of the line models. I spent about $15 on apps in the past two weeks and I'm loaded with great stuff. The phone is far easier to use - as is represented by the fact that my non-technical wife is able to do more and more with less explanations from me. This is, quite frankly, one of the better purchases I've ever made.

I have the Sprint 4S and I'm not sure that the telephone sound quality is as good as my old 3gs.
Here are the data rates from the same spot near SS at 10:30 PM for ATT and Sprint. Att 1.61 Mbps download 0.21 Mbps upload 698 ms ping Sprint 1.16 Mbps download 0.85 Mbps upload 214 ms ping Here are some WIFI data rates. Comcast WIFI 7.42 Mbps download 3.84 Mbps upload 149 ms ping Sprint Wireless store WIFI near SS 5.31 Mbps download 0.85 Mbps upload 76 ms ping I expect that Sprint will have the same dropped call problems that ATT had when the iPhone first came out. For much of the drive from Massachusetts to TV we had no ATT service but our old Sprint phone had service. I was a iPhone ATT customer from day 1 of the phone. I switched from Sprint to get the phone. Verizon was not attractive since they don't cap the cost of the data transfers and I was grandfathered into unlimited data with my old ATT plans. |

I love the new iphone4S. With Siri I finally have "people", meaning real personal assistants. The best thing I like about Siri is I can just pick up the phone and ask her to send me reminders, for example, "at 4:30pm remind me to call the veterinarian for an appointment tomorrow.". At 4:30pm exactly, I get that reminder from Siri. I now have great, reliable "people" with outstanding communication skills and etiquette.

OK, I don't mean to steal this thread, but I just gotta ask. For years, I've heard about 2G, 3G and now 4G. I thought I would stumble across it somewhere, but so far I haven't. What is a G? And why do we need 3 or 4 of them? By the way, I think I heard there's a 5th one looming out there somewhere. We both have the Droid 2, and they are supposed to be 3G, but to my knowledge we have not even used 1G.

You will hear a lot about 3G and 4G networks, which means the network (potential) is faster. Wireless carriers have been rolling out their 4G networks for the last year and we are seeing more and more 4G enabled phones on the market. There was some disappointment that the new iPhone 4S was not a 4G phone. Apple says their new antenna design will enable the phone to achieve 14.4Mb/sec download, which is very close to optimal 4G speed. Expectation is that the next iPhone iteration will be a true 4G phone. Someone else may have a better explanation.... |

It's fun, but not up to the level of Siri just yet. Last edited by memason; 10-28-2011 at 09:39 AM. Reason: correction |
