Default Yahoo email users urged to change their passwords ASAP

HEADS UP....I'm reading this morning that users of the free Yahoo email service are being told to change their passwords to avoid potential risks to their privacy. Yahoo email has been hacked after a security breach exposed account login details to theft.

Seems something like this happens to Yahoo every month.

My source was Google Technology news this morning. As others have mentioned, it's being reported on many different media outlets. Yahoo mail is a free system, much like Google Gmail and if they warn you to change your password, I think I'd listen.

Kayaker, the link you posted was dated a year ago. I think this is something new, and it seems to be legit.

In any event, people should not go to yahoo through an email link to change their password, so point well taken. They should log into their account separately and go from there.

Thanks for posting, I'm really glad I happened across this post. Of course I immediately tried to change it but they couldn't make it any more difficult to find. I keep getting this "Your public Profile". When I click "no thanks" it sends me straight to plain Yahoo.com. Got to run to figure it out but wanted to take a second to send my thanks your way!!!

In general, it's a good idea to change your passwords very regularly, to avoid situations like this, especially if takes the company time to release the fact that they were compromised. Another rule of thumb is to never use the same password for any of your websites - it would be like having one key for your car, your house, your bank account, and so on. As always, the best measures are always preventative.
