So I need to change my AC filter and looked on line. The last time I ordered one (Two) they were about 1/2 inch to wide even though the basic size was correct. (actual measurement was off) It is the big boxy one. Is there a local dealer that has an inventory of these things so that I can return them if they don't fit? Thanks.

Ace hardware or Lowell's. I buy the cheaper ones and replace frequently. Important if you have a dog that sheds lots of hair (even faster then mine falls out) : (

Take a picture of the part number of the correct filter and the EXACT size, not the NOMINAL size. Lowe's is also stocking these as I recall. These only fit one way even though they look square. Make sure you have it installed in the correct direction for the air flow. I have ordered by original part number from Filters USA online, and these have been exactly correct every-time.

I have bought filters at Lowes and Home Depot that were too large. I now buy them at ACE Hardware and the brand name is Flanders.

Three weeks ago I bought a new filter at Lowes for my Carrier A/C, it was a good fit!
