Default Whole house vent cleaning

Any need to have this done? If so, who, how much can we expect to pay?

Thanks

In my opinion, it is a total waste of money to clean your HVAC ductwork. But, if you are talking about your dryer vent, then that is worth doing.

As long as you are changing the filter on your A/C unit, IMHO, "cleaning" is not required or necessary. Dryer vent, yes, these do need to be cleaned occasionally. We are very careful about cleaning the filter in the dryer, and there still was some build up in the dryer vent, not much, and after 4 years of use.

It’s virtually impossible to clean flexible duct without it collapsing or puncturing, it’s a scam. Only hard ducted pipe can be cleaned properly, which is a commercial/industrial application.
Here in TV the residential ducting is flexible duct. Regular filter changes are all that’s required.

Up north I installed pre-filters in all my return registers, this kept the return ducting clean. Here every room has a return register, it would be impractical and unnecessary especially considering we move every 5 years or so or until the new house smell goes away [emoji55]

Totally agree. In fact I was told by an HVAC person that the spinning brushes used to clean the vents often does more damage than good as it can leave leaks in your vents. Once a year we spray a can of lysol disinfectant into the air intake while the A/C is running so it circulates through the vents and disinfects the surface inside the vents. It takes a little while for the smell to go away, but it is a cheap and easy way to clean the vents without any damage.
