Question Advisingconstruction

I receive a phone call yesterday offering a free roof inspection for damage. I had never heard of this company. I was skeptical but they came over today. I hadn't seen anything on TOTV. Apparently they are new in Florida. They had a Nebraska license plate on their car. In any case they came over, inspected the roof and pointed out that the shingles could be lifted and water could get in under the shingles if the wind lifted them up. I told them that I would not make a decision today. They estimated that reroofing would cost around $18,000 There was no high pressure, they left their card and told me that they had done some repairs in the Villages and offered to give me names. They also said that they work through the homeowners insurance carrier. In any case I'm considering using them.

I thought it was going to be a scam but after talking with these guys I think they might be honest. Any comments?

John

WHENEVER someone tries to sell me something I am skeptical. Please don't contract with them. It smells bad clear over here.

LittleDog, IMHO, RUN from this. If you are having roof problems, contact a local roofer or actually 3 roofers, and get estimates for the work.

Actually, I would contact Frank DeAngleo, he does home inspections and is very good. He will give you an independent review of your roof and whether you actually need to have any work done.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES sign an ASSIGNMENTS OF BENEFITS contract, which my be what the contract ment when he said he "works with" the insurance carrier.

This sounds very suspicious.

$18,000 roof.....a very BIG house.

Not sure what you heard to make you consider using them.
I strongly suggest you get at least two more bids...for price check and whether the others recommend replacement.

$18,000.......

It’s a scam. You seem like a nice guy. Please don’t let anyone come to your home unsolicited who you don’t know. Ever.

VillageTinker as always is right on about this. 18k seems quite expensive unless you have a VERY big home.

Unless you are having roof problems I would do nothing. If you are by chance having roof problems, I would go with local well established roofers.

Right now, the good roofers are very busy still from Irma.....any bunch of guys looking for work can't be very good. The good ones never have to look for work.....especially now.

Hope this helps!

Frank

I think I may have misquoted on the price. It was probably $8,000, not $18,000. From my own experience I don't believe these guys were scam artists. They had vehicles with the company logo and shirts with the company logo. I went to their website and it looked like a reputable company. I probably won't do anything now as the only thing they pointed out was the shingles were able to be lifted and in a strong wind that may happen. They mentioned that underneath the shingles there was some moisture but nothing serious. Thank you for your comments but I think their company is new in the area. They offered to give me some names of people that they worked for here.

Hi there John. You may be right and they may be the most legitimate guys around. Why not post the name? Especially since you are not saying anything negative about them. This way, some on this forum who may have used them can give you their opinion -- good or bad -- based upon experience rather than speculation, if in fact they have worked for others in TV.
