I have the Sun Kool warranty so I get the annual inspection. Last year I asked about getting someone to come out and vacuum out the ducts for the mold that I have read about. The service man said it was not necessary.

This year not only did the Sun Kool guy want to have me get the ducts cleaned for mold but he wanted me to have the evaporator coils inside of the unit cleaned. He took off the cover and showed me the dirt and mold (or whatever) on the coils. He washed them with a spray and a brush but he said the the insides were probably clogged. They have to remove the coils and take it outside and do some kind of an acid wash or something. Then he said that the unit is 9 years old and if they cleaned the coil it might add a couple of years to the life to the A/C or it might still go next month. I told him I was opting for next month since I had a 10 year warranty contract with them.

AS for the mold cleaning, I have noticed black flakes on the master bathroom floor where the A/C vent is. And the ceiling does get dirty where the vents are in the living room. Usually a long handled soft brush will take care of that. But then I also saw a buildup at the return where the filter goes. So I might opt for the mold cleaning.

It is always something.

Their phone number is 1-866-698-8324.
you are going to pay 29.95 to be put in the middle of a sales program

We saw a coupon in the phone book for a free cleaning with DeSantis. They came out and hosed the compressor which was clogged with grass. We have only owned the house for less than a year so we didn't know about cleaning the compressor. The tech told us to change the filter once a month. We noticed that the AC doesn't come on as often since the cleaning. We are hoping this will reduce the electric bill.

Default maintenance and warranty service providers

Anybody know or have any info on Broward Service Providers ? They offer an incredible "insurance/warranty" plan for A/C, dishwasher, range, refridgerator, and ice maker warranty for $183 a year.... seems TOO good to be true - Villages Warranty Dept has three claims against them - but can't say for what. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thks

Air filters do need to be regularly maintained in order to keep your a/c running at its best. Hosing off the unit and changing the filters will hopefully help you avoid unnecessary repairs in the future. If you take care of the compressor, coils, and filter.. your A/C should work as if it is brand new.

Caveman, if someone wants to remove the evaporator coil to clean it, send him packing immediately. The refrigeration system is never meant to be opened. This would be very expensive and probably damaging to the system.
