Default Alarm Systems

I'd like to install an alarm system in my new home - I've talked to ADP, but I'm not real happy with their sales tactics. Can anyone give me some information on other vendors?

Something to consider. Regardless of who the alarm company is, when the alarm sounds, they call the police or fire department. Did you know that you can get a module that will call you (your cell phone), and you can do exactly the same thing, call the police or fire department.

May I ask "why" you feel the need for an alarm system in TV ??

In our homes up north and more specifically around Chicago, we also had alarm systems. In TV, we don't feel the slightest need for such a system.

Maybe we're just naive . . . Just interested in your reasoning.

You make a good point. My frame of reference is living near Philly and recently having been burglarized - although my alarm system did no good since the guy put a ladder up to my second story and climbed in through my open bathroom window. So I may be a little more sensitive about my security.

Personally, if someone wants to break in while I'm not there they are more than welcome. But, one of the things I'm looking forward to is having the windows open when the weather is nice. However, I'm not sure I would be comfortable leaving them open at night.

I guess I would just like to explore my options.

We are not in The Villages at present but are on the way. We've been using APX Alarm System for the past 1 1/2 years and are very happy with it. Not only is it a security system, but fire, C02, and emergency help as well. For security detection there are sensors on every doorway into the house as well as motion detectors within, if you burglar gains entry through another means. We will continue their service once we get to The Villages. Their toll free # is 800-216-5232

Taylor,

We too are on the Main Line, Devon, and see the police reports every day. We were considering an ADT type system too but always got the response "why bother?". I looked into the crime rates between our 2 areas and there is quite a difference. Now there is crime and such in TV but it is more random because it is much harder to get in and out especally if you are deeper into the center of TV. The biggest plus is that the neighbors generlly know each other fairly well and therefor can more readily observe something out of place. Other measures in place are cameras recording in and out movement at the gates etc. I will probaly forego a system for now...
