Default Beware the ad for satellite tv on page 10 daily sun 2/2/09

We watch very little if any television and were here for a year before even considering subscribing. The ad in today's Daily Sun appeared on December 15, and we (who consider ourselves 'educated consumers'...) contacted these people, thought we asked all the right questions and were given what we considered the right answers, and so we subscribed for a basic $25/month package mainly for a couple of specific channels. For lack of another way to put it, we were 'taken'....

Within a day we discovered two things: First, the two specific channels that we wanted that we were told we would receive we did NOT get. And second, once I contacted the actual provider and was told by them that we'd been lied to (that those two channels are definitely NOT part of the $25 package), we were told that we were paying not $25 but rather $46/month! Since 72 hours had not passed, I immediately canceled the contract and even filed a report with the provider about this unscrupulous dealer. Imagine if we had not noticed a missing channel and 72 hours had passed; we would have been stuck with that contract! Yes, it was our mistake.

Notice that in the ad there is no name given for the company or individual who placed the actual ad; in fact, the provider of the services is not even named. It happens to be Dish Network, a reputable company with whom we ultimately worked out a basic package directly. We would STRONGLY urge anyone who might be interested in the service offered in this ad to contact Dish Network directly at 1-888-825-2557 and to get information and, if still interested, arrange installation directly through them. As soon as I post this thread, I will call Dish Network to alert them to the appearance of this ad again.

I had contacted the advertising manager of the Daily Sun back in December who took the position, more or less, that their selling advertising space was their primary consideration and that they would reconsider only if they 'received 150 complaints.' Well, the best I can do is start this thread AND contact Dish. If anyone would like more information about our experience, please feel free to PM me. Good luck!
