Default Attic Fans

Has anyone had an solar attic fan installed? If so, did you see a decrease in your electric bill?

The previous owner of our CY villa had installed a solar attic fan. The inspector we had before closing said they were wonderful, and the previous owner seemed to think it reduced his bills.

Solar attic fans remove the hot air between the ceiling and the roof, hard to measure electric savings as outside temperatures vary constantly, but we installed one as it seemed the right thing to do both to reduce hot air in the attic and help air flow in general.

I was reading one of the adverts for solar attic fans and they did not reccommend them for attics with roof vents. Not sure why as they didn't explain. My house (ranch) has roof vents not sure about other designs.

Natural Light's Solar Attic Fan is a simple and environmentally sensible solution that can save you money. Powered completely by free solar energy, this sleek and efficient vent is both compact and quiet. Fully operational right from the box, it installs easily, with no electrical wiring, no expensive electrician and no permits. And let's not forget powerful! Operating at a whopping 850 cfm, a single unit can fully vent up to 1200 square feet. Place it wherever you need improved circulation; attic, lofts, workshops, storage sheds, garages even barns. Need more power? The 20 watt model can vent up to 1200 cfm and an area of up to 1800 square feet.

Notes: 1) You must have adequate air intake for proper ventilation from the soffit vents or gable-end vents.
2) Place these fans away from any gable end vents.
3) Attic fans are not recommended in conjunction with ridge vents.

Not sure why unless they are worried about drawing in rain from roof vent? But this was copied from their ad at Solar Energy Store.

All roofs have to be vented somehow If not vented can you imagine the amount of heat that would be built up in your attic

SL...

We had the Solar Guys install a 13" solar tube and an attic solar fan in our home about a month ago. Prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and local. The advertise in the Sun all the time.

We also used The Solar Guys for 2 solar tubes and an attic fan, they were great. We especially love the solar tubes.
