Acrylic windows in a lanai really heat up when the sun hits them. You can shade them but shades or blinds won't help because the windows have already absorbed the heat. The only way to avoid this is to stop the sun from hitting the windows - some sort of awning. Glass is the better way to go because if you need to put shades or blinds on the windows due to the sun or heat, they will make a huge difference because glass doesn't absorb the heat like acrylic does. Can't answer your insulation question. Good luck!
