Auto Insurance
I have had Allstate auto insurance for 25 years. Perfect driving record, no claims. I just got my 6 month renewal notice. It is for $627, which is an increase of 27 percent. Too high to ignore. I called State Farm, and they can provide the exact same coverage for $311. I called Allstate, and they just told me to switch to State Farm. Apparently, insurance companies don't care anything about keeping customers. I tried other companies, but most of them will not provide the high liability coverage amount that I want, and they don't have a local office. Most of my premium cost is for liability. An umbrella policy is an option, but it is not cost effective. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Suggest taking with Villages Insurance. Great local support with several options.

Are you sure it's the exact same coverage ? That sounds pretty low.

Yes, I'm sure. I only have liability, collision, comprehensive, and the mandatory PIP. Nothing else.

You were one of 16,000,000 customers.
You were a number, you were a stat.

Just switched to USAA after my "local" agent did not return my calls or e mails for 3 days. When I called office and said I would talk to another agent if my sales person was unavailable, I was told next available agent would call me. After waiting for 24 hours, I shopped online and found USAA the best price for comparable insurance (I was surprised) because previously they were the highest. My 6 month rate went from $607 to $475 with USAA. By the way, Progressive was second at $494.

Watch for the bait and switch with the new insurance company. They often offer you a new customer teaser rate and then jack the premium way up when you get your renewal bill. If you are an AARP member, I have found that the auto policies offered to its members through the Hartford Insurance Group have very competitive rates. Good Luck.

Yes, but both Allstate and State Farm offer up to $1 million in liability coverage as part of their regular auto policy options. Surprisingly, Progressive with The Villages Insurance would only allow up to $250K liability for auto insurance and $500K for their homeowners policy. I think you need more liability coverage for your auto policy than for your homeowners.

All I read about is always review your policy's every year to get the best coverage and price. When you do find a company that you feel is for you, they jack up your premium a year later. Dam if you do, and dam if you don't. What's the answer People?? |

When you say liability coverage, that's different then an umbrella policy, right? |

Not really. Typically, if you have auto insurance and homeowner's insurance, you can buy a third policy called an umbrella policy. The umbrella policy merely piggybacks onto the other two policies, and it increases the liability limits for both policies. But, the umbrella policies I have seen do not add any additional risk coverages, they just provide a higher liability limit.
