can anyone recommend a reliable transmission repair place around the villages? My 2006 Toyota Sienna is acting up and I would like some leads to a good mechanic who could diagnose the problem. thanks

Might try Lake Sumter Transmission, south on 441/27 and on 27 just north of 44 intersection. Located on east side of the road. Clean shop and clean mechanics... been in business about 30 years.
I took my Honda Odyssey there for Air Conditioning work which they also do and they were working on a Sienna's transmission among 5-6 other vehicles.

Check to see if there was a recall. Toyota has had problems with the ECM (engine control module) from 2001 through 2008 models. I know from experience. Both my RAV and Matrix are involved. Haven't met a dealer yet who doesn't play stupid on this issue so go on line and research the issue. Google Sienna transmission problems if you haven't already.

our 2003 dodge van started downshifting - we took it to the trans guy at 44 and 27/441 - he tested it and said it needed 1600 to 1800 to fix - we have 140,000 miles so didn't want to spend that - started looking for a new car - my pt guy said try Turner transmission in Ocala - we took it there and he reprogramed the trans -

Toyota replaced at no cost. I was past warranty. Dealer said there was a recall. Never was mailed anything. Seems they wait until it happens and then tell you. |

Always check the Factory Technical Service Publications first. And Low Tech always effects High Tech.
If your battery was disconnected the transmission must be relearned. If you had the fluid changed at a quick lube and the wrong fluid was installed that will drive that transmission to a early grave. Did the Grandson or a neighbor drive it! That can change shifting points and transmission feel. I did not get a reply on the way your transmission was acting . My data bases have no significant recalls. There are some concerns with poor grounds causing problems on the computer side not the mechanical side. As always a tech must test not guess. And Guess is all we can do - On line. A stop to a Toyota dealer is my best advise. The Toyota factory scan tools and support system is pretty solid. And they are more that willing to retain their customers. Cars today are nothing more that a Computer Controlled Can Bus module system, with four tires and some sheet metal wrapped around them. Best of Luck! Herv |
