Default Beware Steeplechase Retirement

We were on Wedgewood today behind Red Lobster and a van came shooting out of a parking lot in front of us. Caused us to swerve off the road to avoid a collision. It was a marked van from Steeplechase "Gracious" Retirement Living.
My passenger immediately called the number on the van as we watched the driver talking on his cell phone. The person who answered the phone said "oh, that's not our driver" and hung up.
Just so happened, some friends were following us, and saw what happened. They also called in, and were told, "oh that's not our driver, he just borrowed the van from us. We're not responsible."
Turns out, one of the friends in the vehicle that saw it has a relative in that home. Not for long.
Seriously, you think you can loan your business vehicle out and not be responsible for what happens?
What kind of professional business "loans" their vehicle out and then claims ignorance? And the receptionist sounds like she is reading off of a cue card saying "that's not our driver". Since when does the weekend receptionist automatically know who is driving what vehicle?

Call them back. If you don't get a satisfactory response, keep calling until you are speaking to the manager of that retirement community. Tell him/her how upset you are. Keep being a pain to them. Tell them anything to make them upset and miserable.

After to irritate them a great deal, maybe they will tell their drivers to behave better.

I wonder if some corporate person answered.

It apparently is part of a large corporation with many locations.

Oh, they are responsible. Did you get a license number or other ID?

If you got the license, for a few $$ you should be able to get info ~including insurance info ~ on the van. Insurers DO NOT like hearing about stuff like this; they will put the fear in them.

Many years ago, I worked in public records. You would be astounded at what is available.
