I'll give you a heads-up, in general, do what you can to ensure that NEW parts are being installed in your vehicle.
A few months ago I needed a new alternator, called a few places and chose this shop in Oxford. Auto Repair - Car Mechanic - The Villages - Accurso Automobile Repair The guy at the desk seemed knowledgeable and the pricing was fair. Took my car there and the work was completed in a timely fashion. As I drove away I could hear a rather loud rumbling that wasn't there before so, I called them and reported it, saying that it operates fine but, the noise is irregular and if it continues over the next couple days, I will bring it back. The sound stopped a day later so, fine. Well, not fine. A few weeks ago, the car was making grumbling sounds when idling at stop lights. After a couple days, I took it back to that shop for diagnosis. Guess what? It was the ALTERNATOR. They replaced it and at no cost, saying it was under warranty. But, when finished, I asked the guy, " That was very strange, was that alternator from the secondary market"? His reply, shrugging his shoulders, "It was Napa". (a brand name) So, you see, he didn't answer my question. Or rather, he did...by not answering directly. Bottom line: I do not expect refurbished parts to be installed in my car unless that is disclosed as an option at the start. But, I believe that it was they did and that's why that part went bad so quickly. For all I know, the replacement is a refurbished piece also. I won't be going back to that shop. Grrrr. BEWARE. |

On the flip side, I have rebuilt 9 Mustangs from the ground up (64 1/2 to 69) and in many cases new parts were not an option but quality rebuild parts were, never had on fail. Also, if you look at the fine print on many of the dealer repair forms you will find words indicating rebuilt parts maybe used.

I would. I'm the one who did business with them and have far more information about what transpired than someone who wasn't remotely involved.
It doesn't pay to be naive. There are shady tactics used everywhere...incl in the medical arena, btw. Just had a general appt with a new Doc yesterday and in the course of it she tried to sell me on something I didn't need. I stopped short of asking her if she gets a $$ bonus if I do it. It would have been just to see her face, I already know the answer to that question. |
