Just paid $270 to replace a broken fan that was under warranty. No charge for the fan. Is this a reasonable charge for less than an hours work?

Seems high to me for a fan. We had to have our condenser replaced under warranty. Sun Kool didn't charge for labor. It hadn't broken yet, but they thought it was going to. We have their yearly protection plan... that could have been the difference, maybe?

I have had a couple items replaced by Sun-Kool. They were under warranty and I was never charged anything.
They even removed a snake body that got caught in my compressor fan at no charge. Z

I called Home warranty and the warranty for my home is for parts only. I'm in my 5th year. Homes built after mine may be different. I think that Sun Cool charges are high. Next time I'll get bids, regardless of who installed my system. Lesson learned.

When we bought our home, it came with a complete 5 year warranty (Caroline 2006) . All we had to do was pay for a yearly tuneup. At the end of 5 years we had the option to buy an extended 5 year warranty. I think that was around $900. It has paid for itself. Was told that extension beyond 10 yrs not available. Also told that life of units without major repair is something between 10 to 15 years. I am simply prepared to invest $6000 for new system after the current warranty expires and the unit needs a major repair.
This is Florida and I do not want to contend with AC issues. |

Sun Kool's service plan is $200/year for two service checks. When we lived in MI, we spent almost that much per year having the furnace checked every fall, then the A/C checked every spring. I think the unit we have now works a lot harder than our units in MI. I'm happy to have the service plan, and we paid no labor charge for the condenser or when they installed something this spring.
I'm not surprised to learn the life of these units is only ten years. They work long and hard.
