I have a lovely, small art deco clock (stainless) that is in need of repair. Does anyone know a clockmaker???

5. Seriously, look up the manufacturer on GOOGLE. I had great success getting an Anniversary clock repaired.

If it is electric, be ready for sticker shock, I recently looked up electric clock motors for another posting, and these were in the $50 range, NOTE: I did not check ebay and amazon. If it is windup, you can try a can of spray air (keyboard cleaner), and spray out any dust that may have accumulated. I maty have other suggestions, but would need a lot more info on the type of clock...

We've not used him but got the name from the Jeweler in Brownwood who we have had good experience with.

I used to have a friend who did this work-he has passed away. For a little bit of knowledge-based on your description, it is a spring wound fairly inexpensive clock. Obviously as the spring winds down the force driving the clock lessened. It never could or would keep time as well as a modern quartz clock.

Be prepared-the bill is likely to be more than the clock is worth.

If it is a clock that has a small battery operated box on the back, you can just buy a new clock mechanism at Michael's, and replace it. I did that with a wall mounted billiards clock and it was very easy to do. Cost about 10 dollars.

Sad to say that Roger Soukup, who was indeed an excellent clockmaker and with whom I'd had several good experiences, died a while back.

A quartz will keep better time than a spring wound clock but not because a mainspring's force is lessened as it winds down.

The time keeping accuracy of a spring wound clock is pretty much insensitive to the change in force of the mainspring thanks to insights of Christiaan Huygans, in the 1600's, about how to make an isochronous pendulum.
