Default Who do you use for lawn service?

I am interested in recommendations for services that fertilize and weed the lawn. Right now we don't like the way our lawn looks. Various neighbors have recommended Massey, Mikes Maintenance, and Superior. What's your take on these services or do you recommend anyone else?

I think you have posted this same question yesterday under "Contractors and Services."

I not going to recommend a lawn service but I but I will defend them to a degree. Some lawns in some parts of The Villages took a beating from the weather this year. Pretty cold last winter then went to very hot early. My lawn guy admitted it caught him off guard. Some neighbors, using a service I wouldn't recommend, faired better.
If your neighbors are happy with the three you mention then go for one of them.

We also have had an issue with our lawn looking pretty bad. I called our lawn care company which is Bay Area. The owner of the company came by and said that we had a fungus of which they should have caught at the onset but due to a change with some of their employees as well as some just not being on top of such things it happened but the damaged areas would be replaced and our lawn would be looking great in about 2 weeks. We are VERY pleased with the attention we were given and yes, our lawn is looking great.
Also I think it is worth mentioning here what I 've learned about the infamous "wild Bahaia grass". Had much conversation with the above mentioned owner of our lawn care company....wild Bahaia is making it's way into peoples lawns and no chemical will treat it....it eventually can overtake ones lawn as it chokes out the St Augustine. We do have some creeping into our backyard from an adjoining yard that has obvious damage from it. I am told that this wild Bahaia is what is grown on golf courses..it can root anywhere by birds carrying the seeds or just by the seedlings being airborne on windy days.
St Augustine surely is not by idea of a lawn....and the upkeep is a pain....a nice cement slab requires alot less maintenance...lol
Good luck jrjr...hope I didn't add more to your concerns or frustration.

I don't want to recommend any service but I do recommend you check out the October issue of the VHA newsletter, The Villages Voice. That newsletter had a very good article concerning landscapers, what to look for, making a contract, payments, etc. I would read that and then find a company you are happy with.
