Default Consumers beware - auto service at Lady Lake TireChoice

Went to Lady lake TireChoice store today to get an oil change tire rotation and alignment check for my car. Before servicing I was asked to sign the quote with prices that seemed to me to be out of line and when I asked about them I was told, don't worry we take the discounts out at the end once we figure out what all we need to do. Big mistake on my part. As it turns out I need new struts. I was given a quote of $2400 for struts and new tires. I turned that down when I figured out I could get better tires from Tirerack shipped and installed and do the new struts myself for $800. So all that was done was a synthetic oil change and filter for $74. At check out I told the clerk I had a coupon from the corporate web page for $18 off, he told me he had already taken a $25 discount. I had a coupon from a competitor for $49 for a full synthetic change and he told me they don't honor competitors coupons. Upon returning home I found on the corporate website that it is company policy to accept competitors coupons plus give you an additional 5% off. Beware, they lie and overcharge. I told them I would not be back. They said no big deal, we're a for profit business, we don't need your business. MAKE IT A BIG DEAL. We have choices. Go elsewhere

With all of the negative reviews of this company, I have no idea how they stay in business.

Not just that location. They are all dishonest. Shameful.

Isn't it a wonder that auto repair shops (mechanical, body repair) are able to literally steal money from people and never seem to get arrested. They operate in the same manner as Bernie Madoff. Where is the justice? Where are the police officers who are suppose to protect and serve? Can't they go under cover and collect enough evidence to put these guys in jail?

All it would take is getting a few arrested before the rest of them stopped

This is a shady area between being incompetent and therefore not criminal and outright fraud. Hard to absolutely prove fraud.

There are unethical vendors everywhere. Most of their misdeeds are not illegal. That is why the admonition "Caveat Emptor" is so appropriate. I always ask TOTV posters to share experiences when I am getting a new service in the area. This forum has saved me a lot of angst.

There have been so many posts on this forum about folks receiving the same treatment from them. I can't imagine why anyone goes there after reading these.

I suspect a small percentage of The Villages community reads ToTV.

Sam's Club for tires; good prices and low installation charge that included lifetime balancing, rotation, and tire repair.

Tire Kingdom for alignments. I have been using them for years and have had good experiences.

My garage for oil changes and most other maintenance. I realize most people don't want to be bothered but with the way cars are made today it is pretty easy to do most/all of the factory recommended maintenance.

Accu Tech on 301 in Oxford for stuff I don't want to do or can't do.

Accu Tech fixed our new auto a/c after three dealerships in three states gave up on it. He kept at it and kept at it till he found the problem. Total cost over four visits: $140. He refused to rip it out till he eliminated all options.

Thanks to BTK for recommending them.

I'd bet you didn't get synthetic oil that you paid for either.

I'd go with Phillips Toyota. Dealers love to sell you repairs, and if they said you don't need them then believe it. If the car drives fine then forget it.

I'd trust Bobby at Accu Tech before any dealer or Tire Choice. Dealer told us there was nothing wrong with our a/c, except for the fact that it would only work for an hour! Bobby kept at it till he found the problem.

Hi, I had a similar experience with an independent garage door technician, I mean door ripoff specialist. He said his work was guaranteed for 6 months but in 4 months I called for service and he said no, only 3 months., He really screwed up and it turned out that the door problem was worse after he did his job. A long story. Be careful with the independents, they can really mess up bigtime so we will see. Wondering if the Atty General for Florida will do anything.
