We are looking for a contractor/handyman to install a vented range hood, our current over the range microwave exhausts into the kitchen, any recommendations?

I would hire an HVAC contractor, like Munn's or Chuck Farrell, not a handyman.

Most micro's are 16" deep. The cabinet has to be replaced with a deeper one, or a hood fabricated to accomadate the depth. Are you sure there is venting going up through the roof ? Is the micro on an exterior wall? If so maybe a new micro that vents out the wall, that would be easier, just a short duct and hood. Steve |

There is no venting through the roof or into the soffit, no venting at all except through the microwave filters and out the top of the microwave and back into the kitchen. Makes it pretty Smokey to sear a steak in a cast iron skillet. Yes just 12” uppers and we could lose those and put a full through the roof vent in or we can vent the microwave, we are open for suggestions. Yes it’s on a exterior block and stucco walll.

You might need a new micro anyway, one that's not ductless, then go either up or out. Either way it's not a handyman job. If using an HVAC contractor, I'm sure he would want to go strait up. Is there room in the attic for decent access?
