We are putting in a pool and the pool company has told us that a pool with ozone treatment is better than a salt water pool which we had wanted and less maintenance. Looking for opinions!

Do a few Google searches and you will find Ozone to be a gimmick and that all systems that use it are backed up with a chlorine system to help them work. We have used Chlorine only, Chlorine and Ozone and Saltwater only over the past 5 homes and 5 new pools.

Without a doubt in the feel of the water, Cost, Burning eyes from Chlorine, dry skin from Chlorine, Ozone is not the way to go. This is my opinion from experience; however, do your own research.

Happy with my salt water pool. Very little maintenance is required.

I'll just add this point, all the large public aquariums use ozone for delicate fish.

Granted they can't use chlorine, but ozone is the choice in these hi-tech systems.

If you still need to add chemicals with ozone, you have the wrong size ozonator installed.

Saltwater alone is still growing many types of bacteria and algea so it's not the total answer, but you can add ozone to saltwater.

Saltwater fish tanks use them.

We have a saltwater pool for the past 4 years (in NJ) and have not had any problems with algae. Water is always crystal clear. Although, not sure if our location has any bearing on this as the weather conditions are not usually the same as in FL.

I have a pool and I use chlorine. If you keep it covered when not in use you dont need to use much chlorine. If a salt generator or ozone breaks down you could be looking at some bucks for repair then what do you do in the mean time. Learn about using chlorine its not that big of deal. Also Silver is a good anti bacterial that be used.

Not really, they are simple by design, another option is UV sterilizer, also a great option.

When we were deciding on a system for our Michael Phelps swimspa, we read everything on ozone and salt systems. It was maddening the pros and cons. Our solution was ozone and T and D to look after it WEEKLY. The salt seemed very appealing but we read about possibilities of corrosion, it seemed you still had to add stuff to it, and we could not find a definitive on either. I do not know that we made the best decision or not, but we finally made a decision and that was a relief! I think either works as long as it is maintained according to recommendations that it comes with.
