It would be difficult to determine the cost as it would be dependent on how they would reroute the return ductwork, where the air handler would be in relation to the condensing unit, etc.
The other question to ask is how old the existing system is? If it is say, ten years old it would be smarter to have them reroute the supply and the return plenums when they install a new system. An A/C system that is 10-15 years old is getting towards the end of it's expected life and it would be foolish to pay a large amount of money to move an old system. It would cost much less to move the system when replacing the complete system. Dependent on how difficult and far the system would need to be moved, plus the cost of patching where the system was, etc, I would not be surprised to think a new system, moved, etc would be between 7-10k. Thanks Frank. Our system is 11-12 yrs old in an Amarillo. We moved in 12-11-12 figuring we should budget for new equipment just in case. I wondered why everything was in the laundry when there is so much room in the garage. Looks like it's gonna stay there, too!
