How to Spot Fake Reviews on Amazon (2023): Tools and Advice | WIRED

Thanx for the link. Excellent article. One can never be too careful.

Interesting too about Amazon Vine. Bottom line is that Amazon is offering freebies for unbiased reviews, but one cannot help but wonder just how long an Amazon Vine reviewer would remain on the Vine "payroll", so to speak, if the predominance of his/her reviews were negative. Amazon makes their money by SELLING items.

Offside parking

I too like the offsite parking. But make sure you have a Plan B. I paid and reserved my spot a month in advance and got there on Christmas day only to be turned away.

How can that be? I have reserved parking and paid in advance…the attendat said WE ARE FULL TOO BAD…and said get a refund.

Now I’m late for my flight and end up paying 10 times much for daily parking.

Sometimes a good deal like Omni parking isn’t always such a good deal

There was a whole line behind me that also got refused parking. I’m sure they paid too. The days of quality customer service are long gone.

$10 a day for parking, plus $20 for tolls round trip, plus $20 for gas round trip. If you're going away for a week-long trip, that's $120 (8 days, because you get charged for any time over the exact hour in the parking lot) round trip, PLUS you have to do all the driving. Compare to $85 round trip, and someone else deals with the driving, and even takes your bags out to the curb when you get off the van.

Is the $85 for one person or for two people? If there were two, would it be $170?

So I went to Ireland for the holiday and 2 months ago, I booked transportation with Dawn's Car Service to Orlando Airport.

At 2:50 PM on 12/26 I get a text, "Is your flight on time? I'm leaving now".

15-20 minutes later I get a text, "I'm feeling under the weather, I'm sending my son.

It's supposed to be a 4:30 pm pickup.

4:35 he's not here and I ask Dawn if he's lost.

"He made a wrong turn and will be there in 15 minutes" is the response.

How does someone get lost with GPS?

4:50 she says "he's still not there"? "He should be there". (no kidding!)

4:55 I tell her I'm going to miss my flight and I'm leaving to drive to Orlando.

He's still not here at 5. I drive to the airport, spend 40 minutes finding a place to park, then dash from Terminal A to Terminal C, race through Security and make my flight, only because of the kindness of the AerLingus desk agent, who allows me to board the flight, late.

Now I'm stuck with my car at Orlando airport and after 22 hours of airports and flying, I have to drive back to TV at midnight last night.

Dawn won't refund my $261 and offered me a "credit towards a future booking". Oh yeah, I can't wait to depend on her again!

& as it turns out, Dawn doesn't even have a "son", I've been told.

Definitely dispute it with your credit card. Get your money back and 260 is just way too much to pay for a round-trip ticket to the airport.

I would never pay a merchant with a third party payment, such as PayPal. Merchants like to use PayPal as a way to bypass the Federal credit card dispute process. The Federal dispute law allows you to dispute a charge within 60 days from the date that the charge first appears on your credit card statement. If the merchant failed to deliver the service or product you paid for, the bank must issue a credit to your account.

PayPal backs you in a dispute.

Remember 20-30 years ago, when "Consumer Protection" was actually a thing?

It's back to being the wild, wild West. Business can do anything they want these days.

Most people that use PayPal have their PayPal purchases paid by a credit card. You can still call your bank to cancel this purchase at the same time you register a complaint with PayPal. PayPal usually sides with the buyer (you) over the seller which is bad if you are selling something using PayPal. Never use PayPal Friends and Family to pay for something because you can’t dispute this charge.

If going on a cruise, we always use off-site parking which is much cheaper than parking at the terminal and your car is more secure.

I have used Dawn’s Car Service for five years and have recommended this service to many of my friends. We have all had excellent service. I don’t know what exactly happened to you and I am sorry. It could be that I make my reservations months in advance and talk to her the day before pickup. Good luck in the future.

Sounds like a awful time..I had to fly in Christmas Eve into Orlando and a catch a ride to TV. Per recommendation I used Southern Oaks.. plane was an hour late, 9:30pm. Jeff was right at the gate to get me. You get what you pay for..getting home Christmas Eve was worth every penny.

Yes, PayPal does have their own voluntary dispute process. But, I would just point out that, when you pay the merchant directly with a credit card, the bank must follow the Federally mandated dispute process regarding deadlines and procedures. If they don't, you can file a complaint with the FDIC. And, banks DO NOT want you to file an FDIC complaint against them. You can also ask your Congressperson to intervene.

You can dispute any transactions with PayPal and E-bay.

I'm not too sure about that. Their website is still going and their FB page claims they're expanding to New Jersey in April 2024 based on a post made on Jan 2nd.

Dawn’s Car Service very teliable

I have used Fawn’s Car Service many times since moving to the Villages 3 years ago including twice this past October to Orlando airport and to the Brightline. The pickup at my home has been punctual to the minute and the drop off at the expected time. The $120 charge is per car not per rider so if there are two of you going, it is very reasonable. But in any case it is worth not having any hassle parking at the airport. I have used them at least a dozen times and have been totally satisfied .
