The fire department. Call the non-emergency number. They feel it is a public service and prefer that they do it than have us climb on ladders. The only downside is you may have to wait a bit for them to show up.

You supply the batteries and the ladder.

Call Desmond Harris, 308-9343. You supply the batteries. He's a good soul, honest, friendly and helpful. He also cleans dryer vents. If you search this forum for Desmond Harris, you'll see ALL the positive comments about this guy. He comes here every year to change out my batteries and clean dryer vent.

my smoke detectors are mains not battery.

Check the fuse box and you may see smoke detectors shown on one of the circuits.

I believe that ALL smoke detectors have batteries. If a fire starts and causes the electricity to go out in the home, you better hope the smoke detectors are battery powered.

As one poster said, call the Fire Department.

Yes, call the Fire Department -352-205-8280 or 352-659-1011, they provide this service free to residents. We tried to pay them and they refused. Great service for Villagers!

Marion County Fire Department just changed ours last week. No charge.

The detectors were giving the periodic "chirp" that indicates low battery life.

After the batteries were changed, one unit continued to beep. The fire fighters determined it was defective due to age.

They looked at the dates that all the units were manufactured and recommended that we replace all of them. It seems that after about seven years they can become unreliable. Ours were nine or ten years old. We changed them all.

Every Fire Department can use something for their quarters.

When is the start of the shift and how many steaks do you take? Sounds like a good idea.

Peteg,
Yes the "main" power for the fire alarms is 120 vac, however, all of these have battery backup, incase the fire was electrical in nature, and took out the 120 vac supply.

Do you believe this is a valid use fir the Fire Dept.? Each time they are dispatched emergency or not it costs quite a bit of money. Do you have lawn service? If so get the guys to do it. one stands on the others sholders. Takes only a few minutes. That's how our son & grandson did it for us last time.

I do believe it's a service the fire department wants to provide for us in TV. They would rather be doing that for us than picking us up off the floor when we fall off of the ladder.

I believe the start of shift is 8am and they are on duty for 24hrs.
Our neighborhood group has donated leftover food from functions to the duty crews at the Fire Dept for some time now. We alternate donations between local food pantries and the FD.
