Default Door Opener

My MVP garage door opener failed tonight. It is humming and not attempting to move chain. Has anyone had this happen and can I assume motor is gone? It it worth repairing or should I go with a different unit. In my old life I had a screw type and belt type side by side and never had problem with either except for eye alignment.

Get a craftsman. Junk the MVP crap.

Call Ryan O'Cull @ 352-617-0522.

It may be something simple that he can repair and save you some money over replacement.

He is reasonable in cost and extremely competent.

Good luck.

My MVP did the same, the belt was all chewed up. Changed belt, worked fine.

Here is a nice comparison site I found on door openers if you decide to switch.

After I posted I read the name Ryan O'Cull a number of times in TOTV so called him. He was here with-in 2 hours and had my door running in :10. I was sure motor was gone due to humming and smell. Drive pulley was loose, easy fix. He said he has seen this in MVP units and simply lock nut loosened up and shouldn't have. Very nice, professional to do business with. Thank you for replies.

Our MVP was beginning to bind and the motor was beginning to sound like an F-18 on its takeoff roll.

We called Precision Overhead Garage Door Service and Andrew met with us the same day. He went over options including just cleaning and lubing. We decided to junk the MVP unit (only two years old) and replace it with a Homelink style unit, keyless entry with a belt drive. Remote and car easier to program and it is much quieter, more like what we have back up north.

I had the same issue a few months ago. I posted some pictures and described the easy DYI fix in the DYI Section.

Over the years I expect many others have had the same problem.
