Default Interior pest control

we will be moving to TV in less than a month.....i have read multiple threads on termite treatments....in those, there is some mention also of interior pest control

my questions, is this recommended/necessary & does anyone have an estimate of the cost and frequency of application

did a search on this topic and there does not seem to be much out there on the topic

Default There are basically two types of pest control.

One is termite and the other is let's call it all other non termite.

Termite is pre treated prior to building and building your home. Thereafter it is an annual inspection and an annual fee. Cost is some where above $100 and can be as high as $200 for the larger Premier homes.

The all other is a maintenance mode prevention that varies by supplier. There are annuals, quarterly and monthly. One just has to make a determination which is most effective for your life style. Annual programs around $250....monthly runs around $20 per month. They typically treat the outside with the theory of creating a barrier around the home. It is usually effective. If psets are seen in the home they will come back and treat the interior as required. For example we had a small episode of "ghost ants" in the house and our provider made as many follow up calls and treatments inside until cured.

Many companies do both the above. When looking for termite prevention make sure you choose one that has structural replacement inclusined in the coverage.

As far as necessary.....an un equivical yes. In this climate pest are prevalent.
My sister decided against using a service and doing her "own thing" when she saw a bug or something. After 6 months she was on a service program.

Good luck.

As far as termite protection goes, make sure you first check out your home warrenty as many come with termite protection for a limited time. Even if you are a subsequent owner of that home, updating the original protection may be less of a hassle than is going with an entirely new company. That is mostly your call. Usually involves a one-time inspection and annual re-inspections thereafter for a fixed annual cost.

For all other pests, most companies seem to favor the "outside barrier" treatment plan so they do not have to intrude into your house for treatment. Almost all will come into your home if necessary (i.e. you see soemthing inside that needs attention). They may also put bait traps in your garage as that is a little more open to pests than the rest of your house. Again, most offer some periodic type of service (quarterly is very common) with "extra" service included in the annual costs if necessary.

I personally have used Massey and been pleased so I can recommend them based on my experience. I think they are not the cheapest but, then again, you get what you pay for.
