Has anyone used Jimmy’s Moving Service from Brooksville FL? Or, do you have any recommendations.

First thing you will note movers have tons of complaints. Probably more than cable TV, auto repair etc. Our move to the villages was long distance. So many GOTCHAS. They send over a SALESMAN with his laptop. He punches in what you have. His program gives him a weight and the NON BINDING price he gives you is based on the TARIFF WEIGHT. The tariff weight is the price per hundred pounds that the company files with the government. No mover will tell you that number. Obviously, if he estimates the weight lower he will produce a lower estimate moving cost. The gotcha, they put the load on a scale. You will see exits on the highways that say weigh station. The driver must show the weight after every stop. So if your load is more than his guess you get the OOPS you owe xxxxxx more than the quote. Another gotcha-INSURANCE. By law included in the quote is insurance but, if I recall it was $100 per 1,000 pounds. Realize what furniture costs per 1,000 pounds far more than $100. I suggest as we did that you take full replacement insurance. If, I recall it was roughly $500. In the move they smashed my desk. They severely damaged several pieces of furniture etc. I expect the issue was that we were the last people off the truck and they did not secure our stuff in the truck-things were allowed to smash into each other. Oh in terms of price bids. I had read get three estimates. We got estimates from Mayflower, United Van Lines and ??????? Both Mayflower and United Van Lines had a similar pitch. They will overstate the weight and when the weight is determined at the weigh station they will adjust to the lower figure. Seemed fair to me. IT IS A SCAM. The tariff weight was, is .57 per 100 pounds for our move. The refund credit is .13 per 100 pounds. Oh and I later discovered that Mayflower and United Van Lines are the same ownership. My point is be careful. A suggestion-take pictures of everything you are moving. Photograph everything you put into each box. Should a carton disappear if, you did not take pictures, you have no proof as to what was in box #xxxxx or that it was not broken or that how you packed it. |
