Default Bisque Refrigerator w/Freezer Drawer on Bottom

We'd like to replace our original bisque refrigerator with another one with the freezer drawer on the bottom. There aren't all that many bisque refrigerators available. If anyone has purchased one recently, we'd be interested in your experience, brand and where you purchased.

check Sears.com for a French door Kenmore with water in the door, icemaker in the freezer. We haven't bought it yet, but liked it.

Default GE Refrig

After many service calls on mine I had GE replace it with a side by side. months after moving in my bottom style profile series started freezing items in the refrig. When they finally agreed to replace the item the new one came and the driver had 6 other stops to go to for the same reason.

We bought this one last month from Sears Appliances on 441. It was on sale and we are very happy with it. I was initially concerned about having the ice maker in the freezer but now I like it. Frees up more room in the fridge.

I’ve changed my recommendation. DON’T BUY THIS MODEL (Kenmore 7101) Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator. It has a design flaw. The ice maker in the freezer drawer dumps out fresh ice cubes when the drawer is open and the pull out door (which holds the ice bin) is extended. The ice falls behind the drawer were you can’t reach them and all over the kitchen floor. I’ve complained to Sears several times over the past couple of weeks and they tell me this shouldn’t happen and I should check my owner’s manual. Finally they sent a repair tech out last week to see if a sensor wasn’t working properly. He looked but couldn’t find a sensor. He called home office and they informed him that there wasn’t a sensor to prevent the ice maker from dumping with the door open. There is a sensor that tells the front panel that the door is open but it’s not tied in to the ice maker. He wrote in the repair ticket that dumping out ice with the door open was “normal operation.”

I bought this model two months ago on sale. It’s one of the few Sears refrigerators available in Bisque. It was originally $2,000. I thought I got a good deal at $1,500. It’s now being sold in store for less than $1,000 and that model is no longer on the Sears web site. Does anyone here really believe Sears didn’t know there was a design problem with this model? And yet they continue to sell them in their stores.

I told Sears to pick this one up and bring me a side-by-side. They said they’ll be here tomorrow (Sunday).

LD, thanks for updating your earlier recommendation of a Kenmore. Doesn't it boggle the mind that after making fridges for 80+ years, that they still can't get it right. Business schools probably use GM as a bad example of US manufacturing gone awry. Their second example could easily be refrigerators.

We put the purchase of a new refrigerator on hold until after we install a laminate floor. When TV installed the top cabinets, they didn't leave a lot of wiggle room to work with, and the height is going to be very close.
