Just curious - If it is indeed a SCREEN door (even with some metal strips) then couldn't someone just rip the screen and unlock the door? Or do you mean another type of security? Like a child walking through it?

Which is why I installed a storm door. You can leave the main door open and get the light and see what is going on. And if I decide to open the windows, I can pull down the top part and have a screened portal at the top of my storm door to lt the air flow.

Makes sense.

Personally I like the retractable since I never felt it would be so cold around here during the day that I need the window portion.

We are very happy with Michelle's also.

But with the window portion UP you can leave the A/C on and still have the front door open.

The metal grid is small enough that you cannot get your hand through unless you have a large metal cutter. The screen door grid is meant to slow down would be crooks and keep honest people honest. You would definitely need a cutting tool to get through it. I primarily installed this type of screen door for my wife so she can feel secure with the front door open when I am not at home.
