Default Frustration Canceling Spectrum Internet

Yesterday I called Spectrum to cancel my internet service and it was a hassle. I was forced to go with Spectrum two years ago because Centic’s service was intermittent here in The Village of Newell. Spectrum was advertising 300 MBS (megabits per second) for $50 a month. However, my first bill was like $78 a month. When I called Spectrum, they said the $50 rate was only if had another Spectrum service like TV or phone. We stream everything on ROKU or Apple TV. Because I had no other option here in in this part of The Villages, I settled for 100 MBS with TV for $65 a month.

Centric recently sent me an email offering a free trial until the end of May. I gave it a try, and I was getting a consistent 600-700 MBS. They must have got their act together for whatever reason. I resigned up for their service for $68 per month.

When calling Spectrum to cancel my service it took over a half hour on the phone to cancel the service. First, they offered 1 GBS for $65 a month. I told them I did not want to do business with them because of their shady business practices. The guy would put me on hold and come back and feed me a bunch of BS. This happened three or four times. When I kept saying I just want to cancel the service, he would say it takes a process. Well, the process was to talk me into keeping their service. It was like dealing with a shady automobile dealer where they take the keys to check out your trade and will not give them back until you buy.

Lots of options. Glad you got something better.

Never call the cable company to cancel service since they can't cancel your service until you return your equipment and they will only try and give you some temporary offer to keep you. Instead, bring your equipment back to the store and cancel there, never over the phone. And beware, you may think they cancelled your service over the phone but you may find out they didn't and get another bill. Also, when you return your equipment always get a receipt and keep it handy for a couple of years. There have been stories of customers getting called after a year or two asking for the equipment back. If you don't have the receipt you will have to pay.

You did the right thing by going with Centric Fiber. Fiber is the best. I can't believe many would sign up for cable in the southern areas when every home comes with Centric Fiber pre-installed.

I bought a home and closed in January in one of the new areas. Preordered spectrum and when the guy came out to install it, he put the router in the garage. I asked him not to because of 1) the heat, and 2) the distance from the garage to the master bedroom. He told me that he couldn’t find the connecting cable inside the house and assured me that the placement would be fine.He then proceeded to run a cable from the box all the way around the house and up the other side, and told me that someone would be by the next day to dig a trench around the entire house to hide the cable. The signal was so weak in the bedroom that I couldn’t connect to anything unless i moved the device closer to the garage. I realized belatedly that centric was pre installed and the router was already inside my house above the refrigerator. I checked and, sure enough, there it was on top of the fridge. Got centric immediately and cancelled Spectrum the next day. Did the same dance on the phone and returned the equipment that same day. For weeks, I got at least two calls a day from Spectrum asking me to come back. The location of the centric router is perfect, right in the center of the house, and the signal is great everywhere, even in the garage.

You did very well to get cancellation with only a 30 minute phone call.
