Default Garage door repairs

I tried a search for garage door opener repairs and couldn't make it work. I remember some people mentioning someone who could come to the house to fix openers. Ours is not working properly. Can y'all share the person you hired and if you were happy with the service. TYA

What is your opener not doing and what make is it? I have seen several MVP models where the sensor connections are corroded the door will not close. Look at the sensors for a RED light. Also, these have RED and Green lights at the back of the unit. If these are ON or flashing this is an error code, the codes are in the manual, or I have a copy of these, and can look it up for you.

You hit the tab to open and it goes up just a bit then down again. Doesn't open all the way!
Yesterday it worked if one went inside (we were in the car) and hit the opener tab in the garage. It happens with both the car opener and the garage one.

Have you looked at the torsion springs to see if one of them may be broken? They are the large horizontal springs above the door just inside the garage entrance. If you see a gap in the spring, it is broken. Some doors will open with one broken spring, but the door will not function properly.

I agree with the previous comment about checking the spring(s). The garage door openers typically have 2 safety settings, one for closing and one for opening. If a spring is broken or has come loose, then the opener has to lift a lot more weight, and it will typically trip the safety sensor.
If you cannot tell if the spring(s) damaged, pull the red handle and try to open the door manually, a properly balanced door can be opened by hand.
Once again, if this is an MVP opener, look at the lights at the back of the unit, these will typically tell you what the problem is.

Springs don't have the life span they used to. . my dad's house springs lasted > 40 years.
our House in MA springs lasted < 20 years. . .

Glad you got quick response and satisfaction.

I'm happy that you got your door fixed. An important maintenance item on these doors - especially the large springs - is to lubricate the spring (and other parts) about twice a year. The high humidity here causes the springs to corrode and thus bind putting great stress on them. Look for a good garage door lubricant to perform this task. 3-in-One Garage Door Lubricant is a good one.

I agree. I use a white lithium spray-on grease on all of the moving parts of the garage door. Some people mistakenly use the original WD-40 product as a lubricant for everything. But, it should mostly be used as a solvent instead. The WD-40 company now makes a range of spray-on products, one of which is a white lithium grease.

I really liked Ryan O'Cull. He is mentioned in another comment. He is busy but there is a reason for that. He is fair and honest.

I used DGD (844) 921-0990 for repairs. They had replaced the motor, and I had a problem with the door not closing with direct sunlight on the sensor. They came back and fixed the problem for free (warranty service).
