Default Water filter/conditioner

Does anyone have any comments about either the Aquasana system, made by AO Smith and the Pelican system, which is made locally in Deland, FL? I have to replace the water heater this fall and that I might get a better price to have both done at the same time since they have to turn off the water anyway. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't try to combine the two purchases. They are not related in any way, and I don't think you will save any money. Any plumber can install a water heater whenever you need it. You will get the best price on a water heater by getting quotes from plumbers.

As far water filtration systems, check out NOVA whole house filtration. They are GREAT!

When my water heater needed to be replaced in my last home, I installed an AO Smith after it got good ratings in the consumer reports review. What was nice is that Lowe's carried the AO Smith. Quick and easy replacement. While doing that replacement, I also installed isolation valves, so that if it needed service in the future, I would not need to turn off the water/ drain down the whole house.

When having a new water heater installed, make sure that the installer prices and installs a new expansion tank to prevent excessive water pressure. I think they are required for all new construction, but, I have observed plumbers who do not install an expansion tank when replacing an old water heater that does not have one already installed. Some plumbers will tell you it is not needed because the water heater has a relief valve. That is totally false and dishonest. The expansion tank will add about $200 - $300, but it is well worth the extra cost. It is a small tank mounted above the water heater. All recently constructed houses have them. Also, if you buy the water heater from Lowes, I would want to know who will be installing it. If they are just subcontracting the installation, you will not be gettting the best plumber. And, you want the guy to at least be a licensed plumber.

If a gas hot water heater I would call Teco. They have discounts for a new heater and will install. A second for an expansion tank. Nova water filter systems are great.
