Default Home Insurance

We are buying our first house here and finding the ability to find homeowners insurance a bit more challenging than we anticipated. Any suggestions? Part of the limitation is the fact that the house will be rented more than lived in.

Most of the big name insurance companies won't write new policies in Florida due to hurricane liability. It's been that way for almost a decade. The Villages Insurance will find you a company and write up the policy. They also handle golf cart policies. We used the one in Colony Plaza.

Default We got seversl quotes

We also bought our home insurance (as well as Auto insurance) from AAA after getting quotes from AAA, Allstate, Village Insurance, USAA, and I think one other company. AAA was the lowest, although not by much. You should have a wind mitigation inspection done to be eligilble for a discount. AAA gave us the name of an inspector and the inspection cost $75.

we also use AAA for auto and home insurance. Had multiple quotes from others but AAA was the best coverage and price.

We originally wanted Allstate since we've mostly been with Allstate here in NY since the late '60's. Since Allstate does not insure secondary residences in FL, we could not insure our TV home with them as our home in NY was and still is our primary residence... at least for the moment.

Got our homeowner's policy with Security First Insurance. The agency we got it through is Brightway Insurance out of Jacksonville - owner/agent I've dealt with is Rita Canty (904) 646-1850. They represent nearly all the companies who offer h.o. coverage in FL - most of the other agencies I checked with for coverage only represented a few.

Started with AIS last year but went back to AAA this year, cheaper and multiple policy discount. More coverage for the price too.

Has anyone submitted a claim for hurricane dmage. Does hurricane damage occur in TV. Reason for asking is AAA quotes their hurricane coverage with a
$5,000 deductible. Is anyone worried about sinkhole coverage...is it necessary?
Thanks

We got both hurricane and sinkhole coverages when we got the policy for our place.

I can't speak to a hurricane blowing through TV but I know there have been sinkholes pop up in a few places within TV in the past.
