We just purchased a home in The Villages (close 23 March). We'll be using it as a vacation/2nd home until we occupy full time towards the end of 2012. I was trying to set up home insurance and was surprised to find that USAA does not insure 2nd/vacation homes in Florida.
Who do you use for Homeowners Insurance? Thanks.

When you ask about homeowner's insurance, be sure to tell them it will be unoccupied for whatever part of the year you are not living in it. Some insurance companies will tell you that your homeowner insurance is not valid if the property is unoccupied for more than 90 days - and you need "unoccupied dwelling" insurance.

Got our homeowner's policy with Security First Insurance. The agency we got it through is Brightway Insurance out of Jacksonville - owner/agent I've dealt with is Rita Canty (904) 646-1850. They represent nearly all the companies who offer h.o. coverage in FL - most of the other agencies I checked with for coverage only represented a few.
