I have begun having problems with the cold water valve under the kitchen sink and the water valves servicing the toilet tanks in the two bathrooms.

These valves do not have turning handles, but rather push in to allow water flow and pull out to stop it.

I can only guess that the water pressure periodically surges or gets so great that it is pushing the valves out, cutting down or off the water flow. It doesn't happen on the hot water side where the water pressure is moderated by the hot water tank.

I've tried using duct tape (the universal fix-it system) to hold the valves pushed in but it isn't working. It appears I need to replace the valves with conventional valves with handles that turn.

Two questions:

1. Is this a commonplace problem in TV?

2. If you have had this problem and gotten it fixed can you recommend someone to do it for me? I'm (hopefully temporarily) wheelchair bound and must hire someone to do the work. I'm thinking an experienced handyman might be less expensive than a professional plumber.

Just drill a small hole in the handle to the side so as not drill into the valve itself and use a small wire tie in that hole and around the base of the supply line. Worked for me.

I think in an older post someone said the valve was under a warranty for some extended time frame. The post stated the company that produced the valve and the warranty period. Does anyone remember the post?
