Default Installation of Chattahoochee Floors

I am interested in putting in a chattahoochee floor over my concrete floor in our bird cage. Can anyone recommend any firms which install chattahoochee floors and give me any pointers on what I should be looking for. Tnks.

Default Chattahoochee River Rock Specialists

Owner's name is Wally @ 352-399-2557. He's been in business for 25 years. I personally know two other people besides myself who have used him & everyone is delighted with the results.

Has anyone had river rock for a number of years? If so, can you comment on its durability and frequency/cost of maintenance (sealing)? We had a quote on it but were then told that it needed annual sealing at $1 per sg ft. Of course this information came from someone who offers a different type of outdoor flooring and I'm not sure I can believe them.

Also, how slippery is it when it gets wet? we love the look of it, but are concerned about durability, maintenance and slipperiness.

I haven't had any Chattahoochee here in the Villages, but at our home in Miami we had it all around our pool. It was beautiful looking, not slippery, not hot in the sun, and held up very well. We were not told to seal it every year and we didn't.

Our home has river rock and we are replacing it. Even though it has been recently sealed, if you want to use potted plants, and then move the pot, there is a light spot where the pot used to be.

Also, it gets very hot in the sun. So hot that we cannot let our dogs walk on it in the heat of the day. (They actually "hop" on it because it burns their toes).

It does need sealing every year. It is not slippery. Also, the top rocks tend to wear down eventually, and when they do, they are sharp.

We also love the look of it, but it is just not practical for someone who really uses their outdoor areas.

Our lanai was done by Mid-State Stone in Feb of 04 and we still feel it is one of the best things we did in our home. We use our lanai year round, half is under roof with open screen and the other half extends with a birdcage. We have absolutly no complaints or regrets. We were told to have reseal about every 4- 5 yrs. We requested the cleaning & sealing about 2 yrs ago which is the only time we've had it done since it was installed and it currently looks just fine other than a hosing it could use that we'll get to as soon as we find some spare time. Periodically after many days of rain the floor will appear to have a "milky spotted " look to it. The first time it happened I got nervous...called the company and was told that it was normal and that a light spray of de-natured alcohol will put it back to looking like new and that it did. That is about the only thing as far as maintenance goes. We recommend Mid-State /Mike & Geri Reimer / 352-245-1990
