Landscape Lighting Recommendation
I'm looking to refresh the landscape lighting around my home.
Hoping for some recommendations . . . . |

I did my own, and a few of the neighbors. Here is some of my observations:
1. Do not get Plastic fixtures, they do not last. 2. Never use twisted connections with wire nuts, these will fail. 3. Use LED based lights, these are generally available in the warm (yellowish) white, but i have seen the bright (blueish) light, I prefer the warm color lights. 4. Do not skimp on the wire size on the main runs, I typically use 12 gauge. 5. One neighbor used VOLT (brand name) equipment, it was expensive, but the easiest to install i have ever seen. 6. I was using soldered connections with heat shrink and liquid tape to get permanent connections that were waterproof, I have since moved to using crimp connections, heat shrink and liquid tape. 7. Insulation piercing type connections seem to fail in 2 to 3 years, sometimes much sooner, but newer styles seem to be better. I cut these off and use the above crimp connections. 8. Make a sketch of what you want for lighting, and where yo want the lights, this will help a lot when laying out the wiring. 9. I like the Home Depot Hampton Bay product, all metal design, I have this at my house for close to 5 years, no failures. As to your original question I do not have any company recommendations as I have done all of the work myself. Good luck with your project.

Sportsguy, if you decide to do your own, i can work with you or give you some guidance, but I have recently injured my ankle, so this type of work is a No-No. Send a PM if interested.
