Default Moving from Long Island to TV

I've been searching for a reputable moving company who can assist our partial move from Suffolk County, LI NY to the Villages. We estimate we will be moving about 2000-2500 pounds of furniture this time....more to follow when the home on LI sells.

I've read lots of horror stories about movers. Can anyone recommend a reputable company that we should be talking to??

Not necessarily looking for the cheapest, but want the best!!

When we moved from Long Island about two years ago we used PODS....we loaded the POD ourselves, with friends, but hired someone to unload when we arrived in the Villages. The two guys unloaded and placed the furniture and boxes where we wanted them. What we liked about PODS is once the pod is loaded, you lock the pod and keep the key......no one can open the pod until you open it at your destination. Good luck with the move!

We used Hall-Lane Movers in December, 2012 from Riverhead to TV. We moved about 3000 lbs.

They were right on time for the loading, which they did beautifully. They however were moving a number of households to various destinations and could not give us a definite arrival date. We were here ten days before they arrived. (We were first loaded in LI and last unloaded in Fla) May or may not be a problem for some, depending upon situations.

Unloading was swift and accurate. They followed requests 100 per cent. Nothing at all was broken, and nothing was missing. Sent us a refund for over charge based on estimated versus actual weight - on their own initiative. Hope this is helpful.

We too moved from LI to the villages. Tips-the reason they deal in weight is that it is government controlled as to what they can charge per 100 lbs-THE TARIFF RATE. The salesman will never tell you the tariff rate but it is simple math. Dollar price quote divided by estimated weight. Obviously they can create a low bid by underestimating your weight.
Once you are on the truck they HAVE YOU and then they tell you you are over the estimated weight and owe them ......... more.
UNITED AND MAYFLOWER will both say they will not charge more than the estimate they will eat the difference. IT IS JUST ANOTHER CON GAME-the saleman will tell you that you have some strange stuff and he will add SEVERAL HUNDRED POUNDS to the quote. Since, you will get it back AS STATED IN THE CONTRACT, you do not care. FOR THE CON-my rate was .57 a 100 lbs-THE FINE PRINT SAYS THE CREDIT BACK IS LIKE .18 PER HUNDRED. Another CON-BOTH MAYFLOWER AND UNITED ARE OWED BY THE SAME COMPANY.
Be sure to pay for full replacement insurance. It is expensive But the regular fright coverage is like .10 per hundred pounds. TEASING but if it costs you .57 per hundred to ship your stuff you should not ship it if .10 per hundred pounds would be acceptable if it is lost.
PHOTOGRAPH EVERYTHING YOU PUT IN EACH BOX. If, a box is lost or damaged you need proof of what you had and condition. The driver will expect you to sign a document, a bill of lading, with his number system on it. You will not be able to THOROUGHLY INSECT FOR DAMAGES or even count all the boxes-they will not be in numerical order. HE WILL NOT LIKE IT ONE BIT-sign and note in writing that several boxes have transit damage and you were not allowed time to count or inspect.
REAL DAMAGES WERE 2-3,000 dollars MAYFLOWER tried to settle with only part payment. THEY WERE SHOCKED THAT I HAD PHOTOS-THAT I WOULD NOT ACCEPT PARTIAL PAYMENT AND THAT I HAD PHOTO PROOF AND WOULD TAKE THEM TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT. A lot of work but I was paid in full.
