Default Licensed Bartender

I'm the Events Chairperson of our neighborhood social club. We are planning a wine tasting in our Rec Center. The Villages requires that we use a licensed bartender. Does anyone know of one? My understanding is that Florida does not require bartenders to be licensed so there aren't that many.

I'd ask at the bar at one of the squares. One of those bartenders will probably be able to point you in the right direction.

Check with any restaurant manager, they most likely will have a good bartender who would love to pick up some extra cash. As for licensing, the state doesn't require one but The Villages does, that is confusing but could be correct, I guess.

Thanks. I already checked with a couple of bartenders at my favorite haunts. That's how I learned about the state licensing and that most of them don't bother getting one. (Why would they?) I also know for a fact that The Villages requires it in their Rec Centers because it's in their Resident Lifestyle Guidelines. I suspect it's for liability reasons. I'll keep asking around - guess I will have to go to more Happy Hours - such a burden. :-) I was just hoping someone else had run into this situation and knew someone.

The rec dept. should be able to provide you with a list of approved caterers and bar tenders.

You'd think so, but I called and they wouldn't give me any names.

Thank you! I'll do that. If your son wants a short gig, respond here and I'll contact him.
