I'm looking for a good carpenter that's reasonable in costs to build closet organizers and shelves. Any referrals would be appreciated.

Check out the Container Store Elfa system. Easy DIY project, high quality, totally flexible and changeable after you install the basic hanging brackets. Not cheap, but cheaper than hiring a carpenter, and you get a great sense of accomplishment.

Found it easy to do it myself. Go to one of the stores and see how it is done.

Go to Big Box store buy the brackets and have them cut the wooden uprights and shelves to size. Finish the wood as you wish and assemble.

OP, if you decide that you like the previous ideas but cannot do the work, there are several handymen or small handyman companies that may be interested in your project. I normally help with these types of projects, but my knees are not what they once were.

IKEA take your measurements they can mock up perfect closet in minutes. Order what you need ship or take with. System is so easy my parents did their closet in about 4 hours. Plus you can change system shelves to accommodate different items

Before you get talked into someone building you a custom closet, You really need to look at a gallery of options, styles and choices of drawers versus hanging racks...

One of the easiest ways to do this is to look at pictures on Pinterest and create your own album of ideas.

Lastly, if you are handy, there are lots of components (drawers, racks, etc) at big box retailers along with melamine board to make the vertical and shelving components...

FWIW - we used Inspired Closets Custom Closet Designs in The Villages | Inspired Closets They did a great job, very professional and the cost was not as bad as I expected. If nothing else, visit their showroom and get ideas of what is possible. It will only cost you your time...

Go to Inspired Closets in Wildwood. They have a big showroom and you can get lots of ideas. We had them do our two master closets in cabinets that match the kitchen and bathrooms.

Dave Does Closets was great; he was there quickly, talked with us on how we wanted to use the space, helped us through the options we had, did the work quickly then cleanup up after himself. We converted a hall closet from shelving into a coat closet, and changed up and added shelving/hanging space to our master closet. Check out Closet Crafters (CLOSET CRAFTERS LLC - The Best Value in Closets and Garage Storage). We used them when we bought 3 years ago, made great closets for my wife and me; she still loves it! I was impressed by the way he was able to work remotely once I gave him dimensions and come up with a design that would fit and serve out needs. Told him what I'd like, in just a couple days he sent me PDFs of drawings. Gave feedback, he updated it in a day. He took final measurements once we actually took possession of the house, cut shelving on site but in their truck to avoid dust in the house or garage. I very highly recommend him. Ask for Gerry.
