Default Memory care facilities

Need to place elderly relative in residential memory care. Would like recommendations on quality places as well as places to avoid. Can’t do in-person visit and inspection during coronavirus. Thanks

I've heard good things about Freedom Pointe, Mission Oaks, and Elan. I have no direct knowledge, except that I have visited them.

The OP said memory care, and that is the title of the thread.

Mother in law spent about 1.5 years is the memory care unit at Mission Oaks, we felt the care was very good.

Since I drive Powell Rd several days a week going to MVP at Brownwood, I watched Your Life Memory Care go from a cow pasture to finished building. I wasn't sure it was open since my MVP trips have ended for two months, but I saw a story in the Sun about a woman visiting her husband at the new Wildwood location. It's right across from the front of the Gold Dome (Sumter County Govt building) on Powell Road. You wouldn't have to wait since it's brand new.

Default medicare.gov

I cannot give you specifics for memory care, but sometimes it is a part of a facility that offers a continuum of care.

As you narrow your search, you can go to medicare.gov for information on inspections, staffing, quality, and overall rating. The nursing homes are rated with stars in the various categories.

When you go to the medicare.gov site, you might need to use the search box on the opening page. Just type in “nursing homes“ and that will take you to “Nursing Home Compare” where you put in the zip code or city or name of the facility, and then it will take you to the information.

As you look through a list, you might see a red circle with a hand in the middle, next to some of the names. That symbol means the facility has been cited for abuse.

The site is helpful, though the design is rather awkward, involving lots of scrolling and clicking around — but could certainly be well worth using to get more information as you make such an important decision.

My mother is in Village Veranda M.C. off of US 441 in lady Lake. Sweet and attentive staff. New facility. Competitive pricing. Though i can’t go see her they have a room with a screened porch where they will bring a resident so they can be visited while the family member does physical distancing. I very much appreciate that.

My mother is in memory care at Mission Oaks. I visited several places before selecting this one. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. It is small and been open 11 years. The memory care is now in a newer 6 year old building. Many staff members have been there since it opened. They love my mother; they are like family. I would avoid brand new places - they have too many kinks to work out.

Sorry to hear about that. I also had to place my Mom in an ALF recently, very hard decision. What I found the most helpful, after months of researching on my own, was to contact her Social Worker, it is assigned by her Insurance's long term care company, that Social Worker help me immensely with a list of the top ALFs in my close proximity, I was able to go check them out, speak to Owner/Manager, ask all our questions (which I had made a list) and make decision. Glad to say my Mother is very happy where we placed her. Good luck.

Default Memory Care Facility

My Mother was at Mission Oaks Memory Care for about two years. Wonderful place. I talked with people (nurses, rehab, social, etc.) and they all recommended Mission Oaks. I visited a lot of the places inside TheVIllages, but Mission Oaks won out.

Ditto those sentiments. Both of my parents were in Mission Oaks. I highly recommend this facility.
