Amazon sells a vent fan for a Whirlpool microwave. Cost is about $29 plus shipping. To replace it, you would have to remove the microwave from its mounting and disassemble it. To install a new microwave you would still have to remove the old one from its mounting. So once it’s removed why not just go ahead and replace the fan?

Installed - heh. SO glad we have a countertop microwave. We paid under $200 for it, and when it starts to fall apart we'll just buy a new one. Installation instructions: remove cardboard protection and plastic coating on the glass turntable, and plug it in 6 inches away from the wall.

My wife and I replaced an over the stove microwave ourselves several years ago. Even though I'm fairly handy, I was a little nervous about juggling the old one out and the new one in. So, we covered the glass stove top with pillows in case it slipped out of our hands. In fact, I think we used enough pillows (couch cushions), so we didn't have to hold it in place while starting the mounting bolts We bought the same make but newer model#. Before buying I checked the weight of the boxed unit in the store. Mounting was very similar for new and old, and the unit comes with a mounting template. Had to drill a couple new holes in bottom of cabinet for the new mounting (mainly because the original mounting was not done correctly). It's best to have an extra set of hands but it took us less than an hour to do it. When finished, we high-fived and felt good about having done the job and saved hundreds.

Don't bother. Get a new one if outside warranty. You will pay more to have it fixed, i.e. labor and parts are probably more than a new one.

My experience with the Whirlpool microwaves is they aren’t worth repairing. Get a new one.

Everybody talks about the cheap appliances the Villages use. We got the upgraded appliance package in our home. Our microwave on sale at Lowes, Home Depot, and Best Buy are all sold for over $800 for the replacement. We loved the looks and features of our microwave.
Looking at Consumers Report Online, the reliability for Whirlpool over the range microwaves are better than almost all brands. I think the only one better is LG, and one of the worst was Samsung! Anyway, Not everyone gets the builder quality standard appliances! That being said, we are going to replace the Microwave.

Wow $900 for a microwave? Was it a convection microwave?
