Just a suggestion, but have you considered a GPS speedometer that doesn't need to be installed?

I have GPS speedometer, with a high speed alarm. It is a heads-up display, you set it on the dash and read it on the windshield. I no longer need it, new gold cart is set for 19.9 mph. Let me know if you want it, $20.

I've heard that speedometers can be wired to alert a driver that drifts left across the center line.:

Not without a lot of sensors and computers for the lane departure system.

If you have a smart phone there is a speedometer app that works great. Just attach a cell phone holder to the window frame or in a cup holder. Also has a full screen display for us older sight challenged folks.

If you Put in a destination it will tell you your speed. However it is small and tough to read and a distraction while driving

Set the governor (or have it set) at 20MPH and forget it. Those who work on carts know how to do that as it is not difficult. What is the rush anyway? I laugh when people zoom around me on the street or on the cart paths (yes my cart is set for a max speed of 20 MPH). I wonder why they just don't leave earlier if they have a specific time to be somewhere? I believe that if you don't take time to enjoy the journey, why bother going?

I hope your cart is street-legal if it needs a speedometer. Speeds in The Villages are limited to 20 mph. So unless you're on the street with a licence you shouldn't need one.
