I suggest not doing it that way, hire an architect to draw plans to your liking not a contractor.

If you need a name just ask about $650 is what I paid and was very happy with his work.

Then shop that set of plans to several contractors.

I'd recommend a different approach than JIMBO in that I would schedule visits from a couple of quality, Village experienced contractors just to discuss your ideas and wants and to get a rough idea of costs to see if your dreams fit into your anticipated budget. As you might guess costs can vary greatly by style of the house (concrete vs frame) what has to be done with your roof line(add on or cut in and rebuild), capacity of current HVAC, what walls are you cutting into or removing, the grade differences of your lot etc, etc. After you get ides and a budget I'd go with JIMBO's suggestion to get independent plans drawn up.

Elite Lifestyles of FL is one contractor you might consider. Ruddy , the owner, is a VIllages resident and has been around for quite a few years. His company sponsors a tour of his completed projects every 3 or 4 months and you tour the homes and talk to the owners. Some are simple additions and others are quite complex and extensive.
